Kauno Žalgiris let a two-goal lead slip as they drew 2-2 with Džiugas in the 12th round of Lithuania’s Toplyga at Darius and Girėnas Stadium.

The hosts made a flying start and opened the scoring in the second minute. Damjan Pavlović broke forward down the flank and his pass found Fabien Ourega, who finished to put Kauno Žalgiris ahead.

Kauno Žalgiris thought they had doubled their advantage midway through the first half when Motiejus Burba rounded the goalkeeper and scored, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The second did arrive in the 34th minute, with Burba again getting in behind before squaring for Amine Benchaib to tap into an empty net.

The game turned at the start of the second half when Rokas Lekiatas was sent off following a VAR review, leaving Kauno Žalgiris to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.

Džiugas soon pulled one back as Vilius Piliukaitis drove into the area and Denis Ževžikovas struck against his former club. Kauno Žalgiris held out for most of the closing stages, but conceded in stoppage time as former FK Liepāja and Hamrun Spartans defender Bacary Sane completed the comeback for Džiugas to secure a point and return to the second place in the table, trailing Kaunas by six points.
