Latvia international Alvis Jaunzems has filed a claim against former club Lechia Gdańsk with FIFA after his contract was terminated, with the player alleging the Polish side still owes him outstanding payments.
Jaunzems moved to Poland last summer but suffered a serious injury in September. Lechia later ended the agreement by invoking Polish FA regulations that allow a club to terminate a contract if a player has been unavailable through injury for more than 180 days.
The 27-year-old has now escalated the matter to FIFA, accusing Lechia of acting unfairly. The defender is said to be seeking unpaid salary and compensation, including a signing-on bonus that he claims was not paid when he joined.
Jaunzems is now fit again and training individually while the case is considered.
