Gutkovskis scores superb derby goal as Arka lose again

Vladislavs Gutkovskis scored with a stunning long-range effort in the Tricity derby, but Arka Gdynia were beaten 2-1 by Lechia Gdańsk in Poland’s second tier. The Latvia striker played the full match and equalised in the 47th minute, controlling the ball under pressure before curling a shot from outside the penalty area into the far top corner. Lechia regained the lead four minutes later.

Gutkovskis has scored in each of his past two appearances, both since losing Arka’s captaincy after the international break. He had gone five league matches without a goal after opening the campaign with four goals and an assist in his first four games. His season record now stands at six goals and one assist in 11 appearances.

Arka have gone seven league matches without a win, drawing twice and losing five. The club, relegated from the Ekstraklasa last season, sit 15th in the 18-team table with 11 points, seven adrift of the promotion play-off places.
