FK Panevėžys signed off for the international break in positive fashion, securing a narrow 1-0 victory over FK Banga Gargždai in the sixth round of the Toplyga.

The hosts made a bright start and could have taken the lead with their very first attack. After a well-delivered pass from Edvin Muratovič, Ernestas Burdzilauskas found himself in a promising position but failed to hit the target. Panevėžys continued to look dangerous early on, delivering several threatening balls into the penalty area.

Banga, however, responded with a well-worked attacking move of their own. A sequence of quick passes opened up space, but Aaron Olugbogi was unable to keep his effort on target, letting a good opportunity slip.

The second half saw a shift in momentum, with Panevėžys goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas called into action more frequently. He dealt confidently with multiple low shots as Banga looked to take control of the match.

Both sides came close to breaking the deadlock, each striking the woodwork. Deividas Malžinskas hit the post for the hosts, while at the other end Salomonas Kouadio came equally close for the visitors.

The decisive moment arrived in the 81st minute. Kouadio delivered a dangerous ball into the penalty area, where Kwadwo Asamoah rose highest and powered a header into the net to give Panevėžys the lead.

The closing stages were not without drama. Panevėžys were reduced to ten men after Oleksandr Kurtsev received his second yellow card, but Banga were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage, missing a late opportunity to equalise.

In the end, Panevėžys held on for all three points, heading into the international break with momentum, while Banga were left to reflect on a fourth defeat of the season.
