The 16th round of the TOPsport A Lyga featured a tense Samogitian derby between Telšiai’s Džiugas and Gargždai’s Banga. After a gritty battle, it was David Alfonso’s men who emerged victorious with a narrow 1–0 win on the road.
The match began with the home side pressing higher and looking more dangerous in attack. However, despite their early intensity, Džiugas couldn’t convert their pressure into a goal.
Midway through the first half, the momentum evened out—and it was Banga who capitalized on a set piece. In the 31st minute, Hugo Figueredo delivered a precise corner kick, which Akpe Victory reached first, cleverly laying it off to Deividas Malžinskas. The defender rose to the occasion, heading the ball accurately into the net to put the visitors 1–0 ahead.
The second half mirrored the first in many ways. Džiugas controlled more of the possession and created more shooting opportunities, yet lacked precision in front of goal. Most attempts flew off target or were calmly collected by goalkeeper Mantas Bertašius.
Meanwhile, Banga held their defensive line firmly and waited for openings to counterattack, focusing on maintaining their slender lead.
Ultimately, neither side managed to add to the scoreline. Banga walked away with all three points, lifting themselves to 7th in the standings with 21 points. Telšiai’s Džiugas, also on 21 points, remains in 6th place but their winless streak of four matches comes to an end.
