Latvian international centre-back Daniels Balodis will not be continuing his stint with Scottish club St. Johnstone, the team announced today.

According to the Perth-based club, Balodis activated a release clause in his contract, allowing him to terminate the agreement. The 26-year-old informed the club of his decision to move in a different direction with his career.

Balodis joined St. Johnstone in January on a deal that was set to run until next year. During his time in Scotland, he made 16 appearances and scored twice—one of those goals coming in a notable performance against Glasgow giants Celtic.

St. Johnstone struggled throughout the campaign and were ultimately relegated from the Scottish Premiership.

Before his move to Scotland, Balodis played in the 2024 season of the Latvian Higher League with RFS, making ten appearances. He also featured in four UEFA Europa League group stage matches, along with seven games in UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifiers. In 2022, Balodis won the Latvian Virslīga title with Valmiera FC
