After SK Super Nova’s painful last minute 2–1 loss to FC RFS — a match where they played the entire second half with ten men — head coach Ervīns Pērkons was only disappointed with the result, praising his squad for dedication, heart and their work ethic.
“It only hurts me because of the boys. I am a man of steel – nothing hurts me. But I feel sorry — sorry for the guys who died out there on the pitch and gave everything. I feel sorry for the young ones who came on. They’re gaining their first experience in the Virslīga. And this is what that experience looks like. Of course, in some ways it’s unpleasant, in some ways painful, but today we gained much more than we would have by getting a point or even three. We gained a lot more with this match.”
He spoke with visible pride about how his players, many still in their teens, stood their ground against a vastly more experienced RFS squad.
“Many of them are still in school… and today they’re fighting against Ikaunieks. Fantastic. Against Lemajič. Even when they lose those duels — fantastic. These guys have played in the Europa League. […] Show me another low-budget team in Latvia this year that’s played two matches like this against RFS. Two rounds are done — find me another one. That’s why I think this was a football celebration.“
But the coach’s passion turned to visible frustration when addressing the league calendar. Super Nova are scheduled to play Liepāja just two days after this exhausting encounter — something Pērkons considers an unacceptable burden.
“Tomorrow is a new day. We have only two days until the next match, which in my opinion is complete nonsense. No other team plays after two days — only us. I don’t know why. I haven’t seen the calendar, but I think we’re the first to play like this after the international break.”
With only two days to prepare for their next match, Super Nova have little time to dwell on the result. But for Pērkons, the focus remains the same: effort, attitude, and determination.
“We move on. Tomorrow we’ll start preparing for the next match and, believe me, we will do the same. Every match, we will do the same. We’ll go again and give it everything — just like we did today.”
It’s a resolute message, but one that reflects the team’s growing consistency — not just in how they compete, but in how they respond.
