According to Baltic Football News information, Latvian national team goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics is set to continue his career in the Czech First League, joining FK Dukla Prague. The 26-year-old, who stands an imposing 202 cm tall, began this season with Virslīga side FK Auda. In 13 league appearances, he recorded an impressive seven clean sheets. According to infotbal.cz, FK Auda will receive a transfer fee of around €50,000 from Dukla Prague for Matrevics.
Matrevics previously played for Valmiera FC, where he helped secure the Latvian Higher League title in 2022. Following that success, he joined the country’s wealthiest club, Riga FC. Over two seasons with Riga, he made 25 appearances and contributed to winning both the Latvian Cup and the Latvian Super Cup.
A product of Babīte Sports Club, Matrevics moved to England at the age of 16 to join the West Ham United academy, spending three years in their system. He also gained experience in the lower tiers of English football with stints at Barnet and Hendon.
Since the beginning of 2021, Matrevics has been a regular call-up for the Latvian national team. He made his senior debut on March 29, 2022, in a friendly match against Azerbaijan, which Latvia won 1–0. To date, he has earned 13 caps for his country.
Dukla Prague, Matrevics’s new club, returned to the Czech top division last season after a five-year absence. They finished 14th in the league and narrowly retained their top-flight status by defeating second-tier side MFK Vyškov in a relegation play-off via penalty shootout.
Last season, Dukla’s number one goalkeeper was 30-year-old Slovak Matúš Hruška, who kept 11 clean sheets in 36 appearances. Notably, the club also has a past connection with Latvian football, as former national team captain Kaspars Gorkšs played for Dukla Prague during the 2015/16 season.
