In a Tonybet Virslīga clash, FS Jelgava secured a dramatic 2–1 victory over Metta on home turf, with the winning goal coming deep into stoppage time.
It was Metta who struck first, taking the lead in the 11th minute through Kristofers Rēķis after an excellent play by Markuss Ivulāns. However, Jelgava responded midway through the first half, with Ēriks Boroduška finding the back of the net to level the score at 1–1.
The hosts then seized the initiative for the remainder of the first half but were unable to convert their momentum into a lead before the break.
After halftime, Jelgava continued to control the pace of the match, dominating possession much like they had toward the end of the opening period. Despite their dominance, clear scoring chances remained elusive for the home side.
In the 75th minute, Boroduška — the scorer of Jelgava’s first — created a shooting opportunity from a tight angle, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.
Five minutes from time, David Holubek unleashed a powerful long-range shot that seemed destined for the net, but Metta goalkeeper Ņikita Parfjonovs made another crucial save to keep the visitors level.
However, Jelgava’s late pressure finally paid off in stoppage time. Following a corner kick, the ball struck Kārlis Vilnis and deflected into the Metta goal, sealing a last-gasp victory for the home side.
