RFS missed the opportunity to extend their lead in the Virslīga title race after being held to a 0-0 draw by Liepāja at LNK Sporta Parks, with the league leaders wasting a long list of chances throughout the match.

RFS were handed an early opening when Vladislavs Sorokins misplaced a pass straight towards Jānis Ikaunieks, but Talisca recovered with a desperate sliding challenge to prevent the Latvian international from breaking through on goal. Moments later, RFS goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics nearly produced an error of his own at the opposite end, although Liepāja were unable to capitalise.

The hosts gradually took control and created several opportunities from set pieces and deliveries into the penalty area. Rostand Ndjiki headed wide from an offside position, while Herdi Prenga also tested Liepāja goalkeeper Dāvis Ošs after another cross from Dmitrijs Zelenkovs.

Liepāja continued to survive some uncomfortable moments. In the 34th minute, a dangerous backpass from Talisca almost found its way towards goal, with Ošs reacting just in time to prevent Ikaunieks from getting the decisive touch.

The visitors also carried a threat on the counterattack. Shortly before half-time, Abiodun Ogunniyi went close from distance, while Liepāja began the second half brightly. Ede Oloko escaped Žiga Lipušček and created a dangerous situation for Amar Haidara, only for Prenga to recover and clear the ball over his own crossbar.

At the other end, Ikaunieks wasted another promising opportunity after Lasha Odisharia had beaten several defenders with a strong individual run. Liepāja goalkeeper Ošs remained busy as RFS continued to push, while Matrevics was fortunate not to be punished after another mistake gave the visitors possession in a dangerous area.

RFS increased the pressure in the final 20 minutes. Ndjiki fired over from the centre of the box, while Ikaunieks had several efforts blocked or pushed away as the hosts struggled to turn their territorial advantage into a goal.

Morozs introduced Darko Lemajic in the closing stages in search of a breakthrough, and the Serbian striker immediately became the main target of RFS crosses. He headed narrowly wide twice before forcing Ošs into a save in stoppage time, but Liepāja held on for the point.

The draw means RFS failed to fully capitalise on Riga FC also dropping points in their 1-1 draw against Daugavpils. The gap between the two title rivals therefore remains at four points.
