German 3. Liga side Energie Cottbus have announced the loan signing of Lithuanian youth international Lukas Michelbrink from Hertha BSC.
The versatile 20-year-old, who holds both Lithuanian and German citizenship and can play in midfield or defense, joins on a one-year deal designed to support his next steps in professional football.
“Lukas is a very talented player who has benefited from one of the best youth development programs in Germany at Hertha,” said Energie head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz. “His calm presence on the pitch and footballing quality can definitely help us. He had a strong season in the Regionalliga and was already included in Hertha’s first-team squad. We want to support his continued growth.”
Energie sporting director Maniyel Nergiz added: “We’re very pleased that Hertha views this loan as a valuable opportunity for both clubs and especially for Lukas, who is eager to develop further and gain experience in professional football. We sincerely thank Hertha and his agent for helping bring this idea to life. It’s a move that benefits all three parties.”
Born in Berlin, Michelbrink began his footballing journey with FSV Berolina Stralau before joining Hertha’s academy at the age of 12, where he progressed through all of the club’s youth levels. Last year, he made his debut for Hertha’s second team in the German Regionalliga (4th tier). In his first season at that level, he made 23 appearances and recorded four assists. He was also named on the bench twice for Hertha’s first team in the 2. Bundesliga
Standing at 1.81 meters, he has also represented Germany at U18 level and Lithuania at U19 level, earning seven caps and scoring once for the latter.
