In the Polish Ekstraklasa, Alvis Jaunzems played a full match for the second consecutive game as his team, Stal Mielec, faced Gornik Zabrze in a goalless draw.

The 25-year-old Latvian was once again in the starting lineup as Stal Mielec, currently battling relegation, had experienced a heartbreaking defeat against Lechia Gdansk in the previous week by squandering a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 after conceding three goals in the last 20 minutes. Today, their opponents, Gornik Zabrze, have guaranteed their safety and remain far from contention for European qualification.

Jaunzems received a yellow card in the first minute of the game, but both teams failed to score as they headed into halftime. In the second half, after a VAR check, a goal scored by Stal Mielec’s Maltese midfielder, Matthew Guillaumier, was disallowed due to offside. Shortly afterward, Jaunzems’ teammate, Piotr Wlazlo, received a second yellow card, leaving Stal Mielec with ten players for the final 15 minutes of the match.

Despite their numerical advantage, Gornik Zabrze could not capitalize on the situation, and the game ended without any goals. This point might prove crucial for Stal Mielec, as they are now two points behind 15th place Puszcza, which is the last team in a safe position.

Stal Mielec’s next match will be on Monday as they face Zaglebie in an away game.
