Daugavpils municipality, the Latvian Football Federation and Daugavpils Olympic Centre Ltd signed a trilateral agreement for the development of football infrastructure in the city, which includes an inflatable air dome.
An agreement for the construction of a new air dome in Daugavpils has been sealed as part of a trilateral deal between the Latvian Football Federation, the Daugavpils municipality and the Daugavpils Olympic Centre. The air dome will be erected on a recently installed full-size artificial pitch of the Daugavpils ‘Draudzīgā aicinājuma’ high school north of the city.
Speaking at the signing event, the President of the Latvian Football Federation Vadims Ļašenko noted:
Daugavpils has always been a priority development city in Latvian football, so we are pleased to be able to take another step in the direction of improving the quality and accessibility of regional football infrastructure. This air dome will bring more year-round training opportunities for children, youngsters and coaches. It is an investment in the future.
While the announcement of an infrastructure project that would ensure year-round football was broadly welcomed by the Latvian football community, some raised questions about the choice of an air dome instead of a rigid hall. Former head of infrastructure development at the LFF, Guntars Indriksons, welcomed the announcement but raised questions about the sustainability aspect of air domes, noting that air domes are not a long-term solution to indoor football.
