In the Polish Ekstraklasa, Alvis Jaunzems and his team, Stal Mielec, suffered a heartbreaking defeat, blowing a two-goal lead in a crucial match against their rivals, Lechia Gdańsk. They lost the match 2-3.
After starting on the bench in the previous league match, Alvis returned to the starting lineup for this game. Stal Mielec took a two-goal lead as both teams headed into halftime, making it seem like they would secure an important win and climb out of the relegation zone. However, everything changed in the second half. Lechia reduced the deficit with a goal in the 72nd minute.
Then, in a surprising turn of events, as additional time began, Stal Mielec was still leading by one goal. However, Tomas Bobček and Tomasz Neugebauer scored back-to-back goals for Lechia Gdańsk within two minutes, snatching the win and securing three crucial points for their team.
Alvis played the entire match, and after this defeat, Stal Mielec fell to last place in the league table, with 24 points after 28 games. They are now three points behind Lechia Gdańsk, who, with this victory, moved up to 15th place, which would ensure safety in the Ekstraklasa.
Alvis and his team’s next match will be on Tuesday when they host Górnik Zabrze. There are still six matches left to be played in the Polish Ekstraklasa.
