In today’s Italian Serie B match, Marius Adamonis was in goal as his team, Sudtirol, faced a critical defeat against their league rivals, Salernitana, in the battle to avoid relegation.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper started against Salernitana, a club he played for on loan during the 2017/18 and 2020/21 seasons, making a total of 12 appearances. Adamonis had a strong beginning to his time at Sudtirol after joining in January, securing four wins in his first seven games, which helped lift the team temporarily out of the relegation zone. However, their form has dipped recently, as they have gone winless in their last three matches.
Today, Sudtirol played an away game against a team that was in 19th place in the 20-team league, five points behind Adamonis’s Sudtirol.
After a lackluster first half, Salernitana scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half, establishing a solid foundation for their victory. Sudtirol managed to pull one back to reduce the deficit, but they were unable to find the equalizer, extending their winless streak to four games.
In his 11th game for Sudtirol in the Italian Serie B, Adamonis made three out of five saves. With five games remaining in the league, Sudtirol currently sits 16th in the table with 35 points after 33 matches, precariously close to the relegation zone. Their next league match will be in nine days, when they host Bari.
