In the Armenian top league, Matas Vareika continued his superb start abroad, scoring for the third consecutive game as his team, Pyunik Yerevan, played to a 1:1 draw against Alashkert.
The 25-year-old winger has had an excellent start to his career abroad. The former FC Hegelmann star had scored four goals in six games across all competitions for the Armenian club prior to this match.
As usual, he started the game and found the net in the 23rd minute. He received the ball on the right wing, made his way into the box, and skillfully maneuvered past his defender. He then took a shot that found the bottom right corner, marking his fourth league goal of the season.
Just five minutes later, Alashkert equalized, and the score remained tied for the rest of the match. Vareika played for 73 minutes before being substituted.
Following this draw, Pyunik remains in fourth place in the league table with 44 points after 23 matches. They are three points behind Urartu, who is in third place.
Vareika and his team will play their next match on Wednesday against Ararat-Armenia in the Armenian Super Cup.
