After Metta’s remarkable win over defending Champions FC RFS – first win since 2017 – Baltic Football News reached out to Metta Ultras in order to get a sense of what this win meant for the most loyal green & whites.
Speaking to Baltic Football News about their experience of the game and the ensuing celebrations thereafter, a representative of Metta Ultras – the hardcore and very exclusive fan movement supporting FK Metta – provided rare insight into what these die hard supporters experienced as their club defeated reigning Champions for the first time since 2017:
We are pleased that the ‘room for improvement’ promised by the head coach of the main team came about so swiftly. Compared to the opening games of the season, we can see that players are finally looking confident in their skills and abilities. The cherry on top in this game, our winning goal notwithstanding, was seeing how our young and agile players outpaced the slow and bulky opponents in transitional play – it was a pleasure to see how much RFS struggled to keep up. We have this saying among us that we have so few victories that we have yet to learn to celebrate them and, usually, only a small part of those who cheer from the stands also stay for the celebratory ‘extra time’. But not this time. This time absolutely everyone went to celebrate and we were joined by more of our brethren as the night went on so much so that, at the peak of our celebrations, we had fully taken over a local bar.
With 1-0 win over the defending Champions, FK Metta have now risen to the third place in the table, 1 point above Riga FC and equal on points with BFC Daugavpils just above them in second. Their next match will be against Riga FC away on Tuesday, 8th of April.
