In the Polish Ekstraklasa, Alvis Jaunzems came on the field at the end of the game as Stal Mielec, which is battling to avoid the relegation, played a 1:1 draw at home against Cracovia.
Earlier in the week, Stal Mielec announced the release of their Polish manager, Janusz Niedzwiedz. The following day, they announced his replacement: Ivan Djurdjevic, a well-known figure among Latvian football fans. Djurdjevic previously served as the sporting director for FK Liepāja but left the team after six months. With the new coach in place, Alvis Jaunzems was not included in the starting lineup for the first time since October 23. He came on the field in the 82nd minute, with the score tied 1-1.
Stal Mielec took the lead in the 11th minute, but Finnish striker Benjamin Kallman equalized in the 59th minute, scoring his 16th goal of the season. After Jaunzems’ appearance, the score remained unchanged, and both teams earned one point from the match.
With this point, Stal Mielec moved out of the relegation zone and is currently in 15th place in the league table with 24 points. Their next match is in ten days, when they will face Lechia Gdańsk.
