In the South Korean top-flight Vladislavs Gutkovskis made his first start of the season as his team, Daejeon, secured a 3-2 victory against the three-time reigning league champions, Ulsan HD.
Daejeon has begun the season strongly, recording four wins, one draw, and one loss in their first six league games, which has positioned them at the top of the league. Their only defeat came against today’s opponents. Ulsan HD has been crowned K League 1 champion for the past three seasons.
Gutkovskis’ team took an early two-goal lead, but it evaporated at the end of the first half when Ulsan HD scored twice in a seven-minute span. Gutkovskis, who made his fifth appearance of the season, was substituted in the 57th minute. The game-winning goal was scored by former Ulsan HD player Joo Min-Kyu, who took Gutkovskis’ place.
The experienced South Korean forward, Joo Min-Kyu, scored his sixth goal of the season, leading the league in that category.
Daejeon held on for the win and now has 16 points after seven league games, sitting five points ahead of their closest competitor.
Next, Gutkovskis and his team will host Jeonbuk on Saturday.
