In the Romanian Super Liga, Edvinas Gertmonas returned to goal after a two-game absence, helping his Universitatea Cluj team secure a 1-0 victory against CFR Cluj.
The Lithuanian goalkeeper had been on the bench during the previous two league matches while 20-year-old Romanian Stefan Lefter took his place. However, after a disappointing 0-3 defeat against Universitatea Craiova, Gertmonas was reinstated as the starting goalkeeper following the international break.
The only goal of the match came in the 43rd minute. Vladislav Blanuta was quick to react to a rebound after a save from the opposing goalkeeper and successfully put it into the net.
The 28-year-old Gertmonas has appeared in 28 league matches this season. Today he delivered a standout performance, making eight saves and achieving a clean sheet for the tenth time. This victory was crucial for the club as they continue their pursuit of the league title, with eight games remaining in the Championship group. Universitatea Cluj currently holds 4th place with 29 points, just three points behind the leaders, FCSB and Universitatea Craiova.
Their next match is scheduled for Saturday, where they will face one of those leaders, FCSB, in an away game.
In the Albanian Abissnet Superiore, Sigitas Olberkis played the full match as his team, AF Elbasani, came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against KF Tirana, thanks to a game-winning goal by Kristi Qose in the 90+4th minute.
This was Olberkis’s 12th appearance of the season in the Albanian top flight. AF Elbasani currently sits in 5th place in the league table with 43 points after 32 games. Their next match will be on Monday, where they will face the defending champions and league leaders, KF Egnatia.
