In the final match of the Sunday doubleheader for Matchday 4 in the TonyBet Virslīga, FK Auda secured a 2-0 victory over FS Jelgava, thanks to goals from Kemehlo Nguena and Deniss Meļņiks.
From the outset, FK Auda looked dangerous as Emīls Birka’s free-kick in the opening minutes hit the post, and his subsequent attempt was saved by Jelgava’s goalkeeper. With Renārs Varslavāns out for an extended period, Auda needed someone to step up in midfield, and Kemehlo Nguena did just that. In the 23rd minute, he received a pass from Birka, took one touch to position himself, and struck a powerful shot from outside the box into the top right corner, leaving the Jelgava goalkeeper with no chance.
Auda continued to create opportunities but the Jelgava goalkeeper remained firm. FS Jelgava’s best chance came in the second half when 18-year-old Nigerian Victor Promise, making his debut for the club, showcased fantastic individual skill to set up Rihards Bečers. However, Bečers’ shot from about 15 meters went wide.
In the closing moments of the game, Auda scored an insurance goal. Once again, Emīls Birka was key, delivering a cross from a set-piece that was met by Deniss Meļņiks, who scored his first goal of the season.
With this win, FK Auda has now won two consecutive matches and has caught up with FK Liepāja in the league standings. Meanwhile, FS Jelgava remains in search of its first victory of the season, sitting on just two points after four games.
In their next match on Friday, FK Auda will travel to Daugavpils to face BFC Daugavpils, while FS Jelgava will host SK Super Nova the following day.
