In the Dutch Eerste Divisie, Dario Šits scored his first goal after returning from injury as Helmond Sport opened their new stadium with a 4-0 victory against MVV Maastricht.

Dario Šits, who had been sidelined for nearly three months due to injury, returned to the field in the last matchday and today he played in his first home game in quite some time. It was a special occasion, as Helmond Sport inaugurated their new 3,600-seat stadium, named GS Staalwerken Stadion, after their previous venue.

During their first match in the new stadium, Helmond Sport hosted MVV Maastricht. Although Šits started the game on the bench, his teammates got off to a fantastic start, scoring three goals in the first 23 minutes, which set the foundation for the win.

Šits came onto the field in the 69th minute, and just nine minutes later, he scored his first league goal in four months. Icelandic player Ingason delivered a cross into the box, and Šits made a brilliant header, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance! This goal marked Dario’s fifth of the season in the Dutch second division.

Thanks to this victory, Helmond Sport remains in contention for promotion to the Eredivisie, currently sitting 10th in the league table with 42 points. Dario and his team’s next game will be on Tuesday, when they face Roda in an away match.
