Kristers Penkevics has become the newest addition to FS Jelgava as the 22-year-old Latvian defensive midfielder joins alongside his former teammates Kristers Aļekseičiks and Roberts Veips.
Kristers Penkevics, who previously represented Valmiera FC, has joined FS Jelgava ahead of the 2025 season.
Kristers was born in Tukums and started playing football at the age of three. He spent his youth years in the Tukums’ football system, later making his debut in the Virsliga as part of the FK Tukums team. In 2022, he moved to Valmiera FC, where in 2023 he became the Latvian champion and played upon joining FS Jelgava.
In 2019 and 2020, he was nominated for the “Tukums’ Best Young Athlete” award, which he eventually won in 2020.
So far he has played 54 games in the Virsliga, scoring two goals as well as participating in six Latvian Cup games, scoring one goal.
Kristers has often been called up to the Latvia youth national teams, playing a total of 21 games across the U-17, U-19, and U-21 national teams and scoring two goals.
