FK Panevėžys announced the signing of an experienced French attacking midfielder Jérôme Simon, who follows his former coach Roland Vrabec from Luxembourg to Lithuania.

Jérôme Simon (31) was unveiled as the latest FK Panevėžys signing earlier today. Experienced French attacking midfielder will be joining the north Lithuanian club from Luxembourger top-tier side Swift Hesperange on a one year contract, following in the footsteps of his former coach Roland Vrabec, who took charge of Panevėžys last month.

Simon, who is a product of Grenoble and Montpellier academies, played in France, Belgium, Greece and Luxembourg before coming over to Lithuania. A right-footed attacking midfielder, he made a total of 31 appearances for his former club since joining in July 2023, scoring 4 goals and providing 7 assists during this period.

Speaking to club media, Simon explained his reasoning behind moving to Lithuania:

I wanted to discover another championship with a different culture. I’ve always liked challenges, I think Lithuania is a very good challenge. People I know told me good things about a club with ambitions. I also know the coach, so all in all, that’s why I came here.

Keen fans will have a chance to glance at their new player already soon, as Panevėžys will play their next friendly match on February 8th against FK Riteriai at 19:15 in the Pilaitė Football Arena in Vilnius.
