Latvian national team midfielder Aleksejs Saveļjevs will continue his career in Romania after signing with SCM Gloria Buzău, a club in the Romanian Highest League.

The 25-year-old midfielder for the last three seasons represented FK Auda in the Virslīga. As his contract with the team expired, he wanted to explore other options.

In early January, he was seen training with Lithuanian champions FK Žalgiris Vilnius, but today, he was officially announced as a new member of SCM Gloria Buzău.

Saveļjevs, who has earned 25 international caps and scored one goal for the Latvian NT, made 33 appearances in the Virslīga last season, scoring two goals.

Currently, his new team is at the bottom of the league table, three points behind 15th place Botoșani and six points behind Politehnica Iași. This season marks their first time since the 2008/2009 season that Buzău is competing in Romania’s top league. The team plays its home matches at Stadionul Municipal, which has a capacity of 12321.

This is not Saveļjevs’s first experience playing abroad; he moved to Italy in 2017 and stayed there for five years, playing in the Hellas Verona system, as well as for Mantova and Rende.
