Last season’s 6th-place Virsliga team, FK Liepāja, has announced the signing of 23-year-old fullback Kirils Iļjins.
Iļjins began his career with BFC Daugavpils, where he played until the end of the 2022 season, amassing over 100 appearances. He joined Riga FC ahead of the 2023 season, featuring in 12 first-team matches and several reserve games. In 2024, his game time increased to 19 matches but remained largely a bench player for the league’s runners-up.
Internationally, Iļjins has played four matches for the U21 national team, including a game against Germany, and has received three senior team call-ups but is yet to debut.
Standing at 177 cm, the defender now looks to secure his place in the national team through strong performances at FK Liepāja. With several high-quality signings this offseason, Liepāja is strengthening its squad to compete for a European qualification spot after falling short last year.
