FK Sūduva has announced that Latvian forward Aivars Emsis will depart from the team after two seasons. Subsequently, he has been introduced as a new player for another Lithuanian A Lyga club, FK Banga Gargždai.
The 26-year-old played for Sūduva for the past two seasons. During his time with the Marijampole club, he made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring a total of ten goals. Last season, he played less frequently compared to his first season, making just 11 appearances in the A Lyga and scoring three goals.
The new Aivars Emsis club is FK Banga Gargždai which won the Lithuanian Cup for the first time in their history last season and will compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers. It will be Bangas’ first European game since the 2014/15 season when they lost on aggregate against the Irish side Sligo Rovers.
In a brief statement to Baltic Football News, Emsis expressed his excitement about his transfer: “I am thrilled to join a team that has been improving each year. This season, the team will compete in Europe [UEFA Conference League qualification] and the Lithuanian Super Cup, which adds even more responsibility and motivation for both the entire team and myself.”
Before joining Sūduva, Aivars Emsis played in the Virslīga for FK Jelgava and Jūrmalas Spartaks. He also played in Lithuania for FC Džiugas Telšiai and had a brief stint in the lower leagues of Germany and Italy.
