According to our sources, 30 year-old Latvian player Eduards Tīdenbergs has parted ways with FK Liepāja, marking the end of his impactful tenure with the club.

Born on December 18, 1994, in Ventspils, Latvia, Tīdenbergs began his professional career at FK Ventspils, where he quickly rose to prominence. In 2014, he helped his team clinch the Latvian Championship, and in the 2017 season, he was a key player in winning the Latvian Cup. He later captained the team and became a crucial figure in the club.

Tīdenbergs made the move to FK Liepāja in August 2020. Over the course of his five seasons with the club, he became an important player. He made 26 appearances in the Virslīga in the 2023 season alone, scoring 4 goals and providing 12 assists.

However, Tīdenbergs’ time at FK Liepāja was marred by a controversy early in 2024. In march, he was suspended for three months by the Latvian Football Federation’s (LFF) Ethics Committee for making racist comments towards Gambia-born basketball player Shannon Evans in an online exchange. While the suspension was later reduced in may, Tīdenbergs missed several key matches due to this disciplinary action.

His suspension affected his availability for the start of the 2024 season, leading to him missing the early rounds of the Virslīga. Tīdenbergs returned to action later, but the controversy left a shadow over his final months with the club. In total, Tīdenbergs accumulated 1,071 minutes of play across 13 matches in the 2024 season before his departure.
