FK Liepāja secures one of Latvia’s most promising young players

As per our sources, highly-rated Latvian left-back Aleksandrs Molotkovs has completed his move to FK Liepāja from BFC Daugavpils, signing a contract that runs until December 31, 2027. At just 17 years old, Molotkovs is regarded as one of Latvia’s most exciting young prospects.

Molotkovs, born on August 11, 2007, has already made a name for himself at both club and international levels. Standing at 1.82 meters, he possesses the physical attributes and technical skills to operate effectively as a left-back or even as a center-back, as showcased during his recent international appearances. In the 2024 season, Molotkovs played 28 matches in the Virslīga for BFC Daugavpils, amassing 1,742 minutes of playtime.

His performances in the UEFA Youth League further highlighted his potential, featuring in 3 matches and scoring 1 goal across 270 minutes and being the team’s captain.

Molotkovs is already a part of Latvia’s U19 national team, where he has earned 5 caps since making his debut on June 9, 2024, under coach Viktors Dobrecovs. He played 3 full matches (90 minutes each) in the UEFA U19 Championship Qualifiers, alternating between left-back and center-back roles. Molotkovs’ international career started with a friendly match against Estonia U19, where he played 86 minutes in a 2-1 victory, followed by an appearance against Lithuania U19. He then impressed in qualifiers, holding his own against teams like North Macedonia, Luxembourg, and Slovakia.

Aleksandrs Molotkovs arrival comes amid a busy transfer period for FK Liepāja, who have made several additions to their squad. With competition for places intensifying, it will be interesting to see whether the young defender can secure consistent minutes and continue his development in Latvia’s top flight.
