FC Flora Women came back from 1-0 down to win their first Baltic Women’s Football League title in extra time.

A thrilling final between RFS Women and FC Flora Women at LNK Sporta Parks in Riga proved to be a suitable conclusion to an exciting season of the Baltic Women’s Football League, where Estonian side showed plenty of character to fight back from being 1-0 down and win the title in extra time.

RFS Women, the home team, took the lead early in the second half thanks to an accurate shot by Anastasija Poļuhoviča and seemed destined for the win until Flora won a penalty kick in the 92nd minute thanks to a handball by RFS Women defender blocking the shot from just outside of the penalty box. Keeper dove the right way but Kristina Teern’s cool effort into the bottom left corner was powerful and accurate.

With the game tied 1-1, the teams went into extra time. FC Flora took the lead in the 27th minute of extra time following a cross from the left. The ball had gone in between of RFS Women defenders, bounced at around the penalty kick spot towards the far post, where Lisette Tammik was the first to react and caught the keeper on counter-movement to volley the loose ball into the left corner.

Today’s final was the first for RFS Women but fourth in a row for FC Flora Women, who finally claimed their maiden Baltic Women’s Football League title.
