After last year’s disappointment, FK Liepāja is gearing up for the new season with renewed energy. According to our information, they are set to acquire talented forward Bruno Melnis from FK Metta.

The 20-year-old Latvian forward is a product of the SK Super Nova and FK Metta academies. He made his Virslīga debut at just 16 years old in 2020. Melnis had his best season in 2022, scoring ten league goals in 34 games, making him one of the few teenagers in Latvian Virslīga history to reach double digits in goals.

However, he struggled to replicate that level of success in the following seasons. Last year, the Latvian U-21 National team player made 32 league appearances for FK Metta, scoring four goals and providing four assists. Notably, the majority of his contributions came in the latter half of the season, where he scored three goals and assisted four times in the last 15 games.

As per sources, FK Liepāja is expected to pay a transfer fee of 150,000 Euros to FK Metta for Melnis. This isn’t the first instance of Liepāja showing interest in an FK Metta forward; last season, they were close to signing Artjoms Puzirevskis, but the transfer ultimately fell through.

Bruno Melnis, who will turn 21 in January, has made 108 appearances in the Virslīga, scoring a total of 20 goals.
