Rodrigo Vītols extends contract with Aberdeen FC

Aberdeen FC has announced that Rodrigo Vītols, a promising young goalkeeper has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until at least 2027. The 17-year-old has been a part of Aberdeen’s setup for nearly a decade and is regarded as one of the club’s most exciting prospects.

Born in Scotland to Latvian parents, Vītols grew up in Fraserburgh and began his football journey with Fraserburgh Link-Up before joining Aberdeen’s Youth Academy. After joining the club full-time at Cormack Park last summer, he played a pivotal role in Aberdeen’s success in the Club Academy Scotland U18 League and their impressive run to the SFA Youth Cup Final.

Vītols has also represented Latvia at the U17 level.

Reflecting on his contract extension, Vītols expressed pride in the achievement and gratitude towards his family for their support throughout his journey:

“The contract extension is a proud moment not only for myself but for my family. All of the travelling that my parents put in throughout the Youth Academy—it’s not just a reward for me, it’s a reward for them and a thanks for all their efforts behind the scenes.”

Looking ahead, Rodrigo is determined to continue his development and aims to push for greater involvement with the first team:

“The hard work keeps on going. I am looking to push myself as a player and try to get more involved with the first team squad. Between now and the end of the season, I want to perform the best I can and give 110% in every game.”

Currently training alongside senior goalkeepers Dimitar Mitov, Ross Doohan, and Tom Ritchie, Vītols is poised to benefit from invaluable mentorship and experience as he progresses in his career.
