FA Šiauliai and FC Hegelmann were unable to find a breakthrough in Toplyga Matchday 31, playing out a 0-0 draw in Šiauliai. It was the third draw between the two sides in their four league meetings this season.
Hegelmann started on the front foot, earning several set pieces and attempting a number of shots from distance, although none seriously tested the home goalkeeper. Šiauliai registered their first effort on target in the 31st minute as heavy rain began to fall. Deividas Dovydaitis on a counter-attack received the ball and tried his luck from outside the penalty area, but his effort lacked power and was comfortably gathered.
Neither side found a breakthrough before half-time, and the pattern remained largely unchanged after the restart. Both teams continued to rely heavily on attempts from distance without creating much danger in front of goal.
Hegelmann’s best opportunity arrived in the 80th minute. Following a corner, defender Wesley rose to meet the delivery with a header, but Šiauliai goalkeeper Vilius Sivickas was well positioned and held the attempt.
The hosts then had two excellent opportunities to snatch all three points in the 88th minute. A long throw eventually fell to Daniel Romanovskij, who fired towards the near bottom corner through a crowd of defenders, but Lukas Paukštė reacted superbly to keep it out. The danger was not over, as Ugnius Vaitiekaitis reached the rebound first and tried to finish from close range, only for Paukštė to recover quickly and make another save with his leg.
Those two late stops ensured Hegelmann left Šiauliai with a point as neither side managed to break the deadlock in a 0-0 draw.
