Super Nova opened the 30th round of the Latvian Virslīga with a narrow 1-0 victory over Tukums 2000, with 19-year-old centre-back Kristaps Romanovs scoring the only goal of the game. The defeat extended Tukums’ miserable away record this season, with the club still searching for their first victory on the road.
There was little to separate the teams during a relatively quiet first half. Super Nova created one of their better early opportunities in the 12th minute when Valērijs Lizunovs tested Sergejs Viļkovs from distance, before the forward headed narrowly over five minutes later. Tukums also threatened on several occasions, with Maksym Derkach firing over and Leoni Gastaldelo seeing an effort blocked.
The game became more open after the interval. Tukums captain Bogdans Samoilovs went close almost immediately after the restart, sending a left-footed effort narrowly wide, while Super Nova responded through Lizunovs and Mārcis Ošs. The visitors then had arguably their best opportunity of the match in the 67th minute when Gastaldelo found Ruslans Deružinskis in the centre of the penalty area, but goalkeeper Dāvis Veisbuks produced an important save to keep the scores level.
Ten minutes later, Super Nova punished that missed opportunity. Ivans Patrikejevs delivered the ball into the penalty area, where Romanovs saw his initial effort saved by Viļkovs. The rebound, however, fell straight back to the young defender, who made no mistake at the second attempt to put Super Nova 1-0 ahead.
Tukums pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages and came agonisingly close in stoppage time. Deružinskis rose to meet Daniels Radzenieks’ headed pass in the 91st minute, but his header crashed against the crossbar, allowing Super Nova to survive and secure all three points.
The victory was Super Nova’s tenth of the season and keeps them firmly in the battle for fifth place. They now sit three points behind Daugavpils while having played one game fewer. Tukums, meanwhile, remain without an away victory after 15 attempts this season, recording five draws and ten defeats.
