Latvian striker Marko Regža will spend the 2026/27 season in Hungary after joining Nyiregyhaza Spartacus on loan from Czech club Hradec Kralove. The Hungarian side has an option buy the forward after the loan deal.
The 27-year-old forward moved to the Czech Republic at the start of the year, but his time at Hradec Kralove has not brought the regular playing time he would have hoped for. Regža made 11 appearances during the second half of last season, but did not score for the club. This season, he has featured only once in the league, coming off the bench as a substitute.
In search of more minutes, Regža has now completed a loan move to Nyiregyhaza Spartacus, who play in the Hungarian top flight. The club have collected six points from their opening five league matches and currently sit seventh in the 12-team division.
Regža arrives in Hungary after previously enjoying three highly productive seasons with Riga FC, where he scored 61 goals in 120 appearances. He has also represented the Latvian national team 18 times.
“I know the Hungarian league and I consider it strong,” Regža said in the club’s announcement. “I have already played twice against Hungarian teams in European competition, against Puskas Akademia and Kecskemet. I am happy to become a Nyiregyhaza player, I am ready to get on the pitch and I want to help club with goals.”
Nyiregyhaza sporting director Tivadar Fekete explained that the club had been looking to strengthen their attack and felt Regža was the best fit.
“As I mentioned earlier, we still wanted to sign a player for the attacking line. Recently, we monitored several players, and Marko was the one who best suited our playing style. It was also important that if he performs well here, we can sign him from the Czech club on very good terms. We managed to agree on a purchase option that is realistic for us. It depends only on him whether he becomes our player for the long term.”
Regža could make his debut as early as tomorrow, when Nyiregyhaza host Paks in the Hungarian league.
