Riga FC is set to be relocating their ‘artificial pitch’ games to the Baltic Sports Village for the upcoming season. Although the move has not been officially confirmed, it marks a potential change in venue for the club, which has used Mežaparks Sports Village for its matches on artificial surfaces in the early months of the year when natural grass fields are not yet ready.
The Baltic Sports Village, located at Rūpnieku Street 10, Piņķi is situated approximately 20 kilometers from the center of Riga. It features an artificial pitch with a capacity of what will be around 1,000 spectators. In addition to this, the facility includes two full-sized hybrid pitches built to Greenfields FIFA standards, a goalkeeper training area, and a sand court for beach volleyball and football. The site hosts training sessions for Riga FC, FK Auda, and occasionally FK Metta, as well as the Latvian national teams, both senior and youth.
While the Baltic Sports Village is set to become the new home for Riga FC’s matches on artificial surfaces, it is expected that games played on natural grass will continue to be held at Skonto Stadium, one of Latvia’s most iconic football venues. Skonto Stadium has long been the primary ground for Riga FC’s major home matches and remains a favored location due to its central position in Riga and its larger capacity, providing an ideal setting for the club’s biggest fixtures.
Plans for the construction of a larger stadium with several thousand seats, a hotel, sports hall, training centre and a park at the site are still in development, indicating a future expansion of the facility.
