Latvian defender Oskars Vientiess enjoyed a successful debut in the Czech First League, helping Teplice begin the new season with a 3-1 home victory over Bohemians. Elsewhere, Raimonds Krollis also started the campaign with a win as Slovan Liberec defeated Viktoria Plzeň 3-1 away from home.
The 23-year-old centre-back, who joined Teplice during the summer transfer window, was immediately handed a place in the starting line-up for the club’s opening league fixture and delivered an impressive display at the heart of the defence.
Vientiess played the full 90 minutes, winning nine of his 14 duels while making eight clearances as Teplice produced a solid defensive performance. The hosts took the lead in the first half before doubling their advantage shortly after the restart. Bohemians pulled one goal back in the 67th minute, but Nigerian forward John Auta sealed the victory with Teplice’s third goal seven minutes from time.
Teplice’s next league fixture will provide an immediate Latvian matchup, as they travel next Saturday to face Slovan Liberec and compatriot Raimonds Krollis.
Krollis began Slovan Liberec’s away match against Viktoria Plzeň on the bench. His side took the lead before half-time, but the hosts equalised shortly after the interval.
The Latvian striker was introduced in the 75th minute, and just a minute later Slovan restored their advantage. Krollis also played a role in his side’s third goal deep into stoppage time. Receiving the ball outside the penalty area, he fired a high shot that the goalkeeper could only parry into the path of Patrik Dulay, who calmly converted the rebound to secure a 3-1 victory.
Another Latvian in the Czech top flight, Kristers Penkevics, was unavailable for Zlin’s opening league fixture due to health issues. Without him, Zlin suffered a narrow 0-1 home defeat against Baník Ostrava.
