Riga FC Women maintained their perfect start to the LuckyBet Women’s Football League season as they won 2-1 away to RFS Women in Saturday’s meeting between the league’s leading sides at LNK Sporta Parks.
Signija Šenberga opened the score in the 17th minute before Wakana Mitani doubled the visitors’ lead two minutes before the break.
Riga had the chance to make the result more comfortable early in the second half, but Jekaterina Haritonova missed from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute. RFS responded eight minutes later when Anastasija Čemirtāne pulled a goal back, but Riga held on.
The result leaves both sides on 30 points, with Riga having played 10 matches and RFS 12. Metta are third on 18 points, followed by Auda on 15, Iecava/Olaine on 12 and Rīgas Futbola skola on nine, while Rēzekne remain without a point.
The seven-team league is being played over four laps and is set to run until November. Riga Women are the reigning champions, having lifted the title for a second consecutive season last year.
