Tonybet Virslīga Round 21 began with a statement victory from Riga FC, as Mohamed Badamosi scored twice in a 2-0 win over FK Auda at Skonto Stadium to send the reigning champions back to the top of the league table, at least temporarily.

The visitors made a confident start and threatened as early as the second minute when Raki Aouani tested Nils Toms Puriņš from distance after good work by Badamosi. Auda responded with several dangerous attacks of their own, forcing a series of blocks inside the Riga penalty area before Eduards Dašķevičs fired narrowly wide following a quick counterattack.

The breakthrough arrived in the 11th minute and came courtesy of a costly defensive mistake. Moussa Ouedraogo was dispossessed just outside his own penalty area by Badamosi, who then skipped past Ralfs Kragliks before calmly slotting a left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

Auda continued to threaten despite falling behind. Dašķevičs was denied by an excellent save from Frenks Dāvids Orols midway through the first half before another dangerous move ended with Kader Kone finding the net, although the assistant referee had already raised his flag for offside.

Riga looked dangerous every time they pressed high, with Auda repeatedly struggling to play out from the back. Their pressure paid off deep into first-half stoppage time. Orlando Galo capitalised on another defensive mistake and was brought down inside the penalty area by Olabanjo Ogunji. After the referee pointed to the spot, Badamosi stepped up and confidently converted the penalty to double Riga’s advantage and score his second goal of the evening.

Auda suffered another setback moments earlier when defender Tin Hrvoj was forced off through injury after being unable to continue, with Oskars Rubenis replacing him at the start of the second half.

Despite trailing by two goals, Didier Zanetti’s side produced an improved performance after the break and controlled much of the possession. Andrews Appiah forced Orols into a comfortable save, while a succession of corners and crosses kept the Riga defence occupied.

The home side also thought they had a strong penalty appeal when Baba Musah appeared to catch an opponent in the face inside the area. However, after communication with the VAR officials, the referee ruled that the attack had already been halted by an earlier offside, meaning no penalty was awarded.

As Auda pushed more players forward in search of a way back into the contest, Riga became increasingly dangerous on the counterattack. Puriņš denied Raki Aouani, Andres Salazar and Karl Wassom late on to prevent the scoreline from becoming even more emphatic.

The final whistle confirmed a professional 2-0 victory for Riga FC, with Badamosi’s first-half brace proving decisive.

The win lifts Riga FC back to the top of the Tonybet Virslīga table, at least for 24 hours, while FK Auda remain comfortably in third place despite seeing their unbeaten run come to an end.
