FCI Levadia and Flora meet in the season’s third Tallinn derby on Sunday, with the Premium liiga leaders looking to extend an unbeaten start.
The match kicks off at 19:00 local time at the A. Le Coq Arena. Levadia sit top on 43 points from 17 matches, while second-placed Flora trail by 13 points having played one game fewer.
Flora have been beaten in both previous derbies this season, losing 4-0 away before a 3-1 defeat at home, and goalkeeping coach Aiko Orgla said the squad are determined to respond.
“It’s a derby again and it’s nice to play at home, even if this time we’ll be in white,” Orgla told the club media. “Levadia have started the season very strongly and are still unbeaten. Everyone will want to be the first team to beat them this year, and we have that chance on Sunday.
“We’ve worked through different tactical ideas and we’ll soon see how it comes together. In the end, the will to win will probably carry the most weight, but we also have to pay attention to how we act in both penalty areas.”
Orgla also pointed to recent VAR involvement in Flora matches, saying the previous game marked an unusual run. “We probably made a little Estonian football history by being the first team whose matches have had VAR intervene in three consecutive games,” he said. “As the referees’ department always emphasises, it’s all a matter of interpretation.”
Striker Rauno Alliku added: “We haven’t beaten Levadia yet this year. On Sunday we want to put that right.”
