Czech First League club Teplice have announced the signing of Latvian defender Oskars Vientiess on a long-term contract.
The 23-year-old centre-back joins Teplice after spending the second half of last season on loan from FK Liepāja at Czech second-tier side Chrudim. During his time at the club, Vientiess made 12 league appearances and scored one goal.
Earlier this month, Chrudim activated their option to make the transfer from FK Liepāja permanent. However, Vientiess will not play for Chrudim following that move, as he has now completed a transfer to Teplice ahead of the new Czech First League season.
Teplice, who finished 11th in the Czech top flight last season, have also recently announced the signing of BFC Daugavpils attacking player Artem Garzha.
According to Teplice, Vientiess had been monitored by the club’s scouting and analytics department throughout the spring season. “We followed Oskars for a long time. It was not only traditional scouting at matches, but also detailed data analysis of his performances. He rated very well in a number of parameters. In addition, he showed significant potential for further development,” said Teplice sporting director Štěpán Vachoušek.
Vientiess also commented on the move after signing his contract. “I am happy to join a club with such a history. I have heard many good things about Teplice and I am looking forward to a new challenge. I want to help the team and take the next step in my career,” he said.
A product of the Metta academy, Vientiess has previously represented FK Metta, FK Tukums 2000 and FK Liepāja. Across those clubs he made 162 appearances in the Latvian Virslīga and scored three goals.
The defender has also earned 12 caps for Latvia’s Under-21 national team. Although he has received senior national team call-ups on two occasions, most recently in the summer of 2024, he is still awaiting his debut for the Latvian national team.
