RFS returned from the June international break to extend their winning run to eight matches with a 3-1 away victory over Grobiņa, in what was otherwise a low-intensity affair.
20 year old Gambian Modou Saidy set the tone early, finishing first time from a low cut-back by Gauthier Mankenda to put the visitors ahead. Ten minutes later, Saidy was back in action, crafting a floated assist between defenders for Mārtiņš Ķigurs, who doubled the lead and opened his scoring account for the season.
Grobiņa were handed a second-half penalty following a VAR review, but Jevgeņijs Nerugals saved the spot-kick to preserve RFS’s two-goal cushion. Late goals at both ends followed as substitute Roberts Veips made it 3-0 from another Saidy assist, before Artjoms Puzirevskis pulled one back with a header two minutes later to deny RFS a clean sheet.
Kingsley Emenike led RFS’s attacking line for the first time since the season opener against Ogre United, while full-back Shina Kumater came back for the first time this year after injury, playing 13 minutes.
RFS are next in action on Wednesday, 17th of June, when they face Riga FC at Skonto for the Big Riga Derby.
