Maksims Toņiševs scored his first goal for Riga FC as the champions won 4-1 away to Virsliga newcomers Ogre United in the 17th round of fixtures. This comes after scoring his first National team goal during the international break in the Baltic Cup against Lithuania, suggesting that the two-time Virslīga champion may have found something of a clinical touch.

Against struggling Ogre, Riga were in control by half-time. Muhammed Badamosi opened the scoring in the 17th minute from the penalty spot, before Raivis Jurkovskis made it 2-0 32 minutes in after being set up by Toņiševs. Toņiševs then struck early in the second half for 3-0 on the volley as the ball sat up in the air, sending the effort into the bottom corner.

Ogre United pulled one back in the 57th minute when Emīls Evelons got in front of Toņiševs in the box to finish from close range after a free-kick, but Oulad restored Riga’s three-goal buffer with a 65th-minute strike.

Riga remain four point behind leaders RFS, with a second Riga derby this coming Wednesday. Ogre United are still searching for their first league win of the season, with four draws and 13 defeats from 17 matches.
