Žalgiris Vilnius have officially announced their first summer signing ahead of the opening of the Toplyga transfer window, bringing in 27-year-old Ukrainian striker Stanislav Bilenkyi, who spent the previous seasons playing in Israel.
The Ukrainian forward spent the last two campaigns with Israeli Premier League side Ironi Tiberias, scoring six goals in 28 league appearances last season. After his contract with the Israeli club expired, Bilenkyi arrived in Vilnius to complete medical examinations and has now officially been unveiled as a new Žalgiris player.
“Stanislavas arrives from a strong Israeli championship, where he was a regular starter last season. He is a versatile attacker capable of playing in multiple offensive positions, with pace, technique and good understanding of the game. Adapting in Vilnius should not be difficult for him, as he already has considerable international experience after playing in different countries and football cultures.” said Žalgiris sporting director Giedrius Klevinskas.
Born in Donetsk, Bilenkyi began his professional career with Olimpik Donetsk before moving abroad. During his career he has also represented DAC Dunajská Streda in Slovakia, Dynamo Brest in Belarus, Zagłębie Sosnowiec in Poland, Dinamo Tbilisi in Georgia, and spent the last four seasons in Israel with Maccabi Netanya and Ironi Tiberias. Across his time in the Israeli top flight he made 99 appearances and scored 16 goals.
Bilenkyi has also earned seven caps for Ukraine’s U-21 national team, scoring twice.
The striker will officially become eligible to play on June 15, when the summer transfer window in Toplyga opens.
