Virslīga newcomers Ogre United have accepted the resignation of head coach Aleksandr Rekhviashvili after a winless start left the club bottom of the table at the end of the first round of fixtures.
In a statement, the club said it had accepted Rekhviashvili decision to step down and thanked him for his contribution to the team’s development, adding that it wished him success in his future work.
Rekhviashvili, 51, took charge during the winter after the side were effectively led into the top flight by club co-founder Juris Skābardis. As a player, the former midfielder won six Latvian titles with Skonto and earned 21 caps for Georgia.
Ogre’s early-season numbers underline the scale of the task for the next coach. After nine matches they have not recorded a victory, have not led a match at any stage, and have scored five goals, with two of those credited as opposition own goals.
Their heaviest defeats have come against the Riga heavyweights, losing 0-2 away to RFS and 0-4 away to Riga FC. Tukums 2000 are also without a win, sitting ninth with five points, while Jelgava are eighth on eight points.
Ogre’s next match is on Saturday, when they host league leaders RFS in Salaspils.
