Latvian international striker Roberts Uldriķis delivered an outstanding performance in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring a goal and providing an assist to lead Arminia Bielefeld to a crucial 3-2 away victory over Preußen Münster in their fight for survival.
The 28-year-old forward made his first start after five consecutive appearances off the bench, stepping up when his team needed it most. Heading into the match, Arminia were sitting in the relegation zone, making this clash – with just four rounds remaining – a must-win encounter against the league’s bottom-placed side.
Uldriķis made his impact felt in the 16th minute. Following a deep set-piece delivery, the striker, positioned with his back to goal, cleverly guided a header into the bottom-left corner to restore Arminia’s lead at 2-1. It marked his third goal of the season in Germany’s second tier.
Just 18 minutes later, he was involved again. After a long throw-in into the box, Uldriķis flicked the ball on with his head, setting up teammate Mael Corboz, who finished in style with a clever backheel to extend the lead to 3-1.
Uldriķis’ work was done in the 81st minute when he was substituted, but Arminia still had to endure a nervy finish. The hosts pulled one goal back in the 86th minute, setting up a tense finale, yet the visitors held firm to secure a massive three points.
With this victory, Arminia Bielefeld climbed out of the relegation zone, jumping from 17th to 13th place in the tightly contested standings. Next up, they face another key test as they host VfL Bochum next Saturday.
