FK Tukums 2000 rescued a late draw in Tonybet Virslīga Matchday 7, holding FK Liepāja to a 2-2 result as both sides extended their winless runs.
Liepāja came into the match looking to end a three-game winless streak, while Tukums aimed to bounce back after a painful last-minute defeat against RFS just four days earlier.
It was the hosts who started brighter and took advantage of a costly mistake from the visitors. Following a long pass from goalkeeper Ivans Baturins, a miscommunication between Luxembourgish defender Martins and Montenegrin goalkeeper Danijel Petković led to a loose ball in their own half. Ruslans Deružinskis reacted quickest, scoring his third goal of the season to give Tukums an early 1-0 lead.
Liepāja pushed for an equaliser and came close midway through the first half when Chovanie Amatkarijo struck from long range, beating Baturins but seeing his effort crash against the post. The visitors hit the woodwork again towards the end of the half, as Djibril Gueye powered a header onto the post from a set piece. Bart Straalman was first to the rebound but somehow fired over from close range.
The pressure eventually paid off in the second half, when Liepāja found their equaliser with a precise left-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area into the far corner.
In the 75th minute, Liepāja had a golden chance to take the lead, but Baturins produced an excellent save to deny Danila Patijčuks’ header and keep the score level.
However, the visitors did go ahead in the 84th minute. Ivans Patrikejevs finished clinically with his left foot from inside the box, placing the ball into the far corner to make it 2-1 and seemingly secure the win for Liepāja.
But Tukums had the final say deep into stoppage time. After a cross from Kristaps Kļaviņš on the left, substitute Martins Štāls reacted quicker than fellow substitute Kirils Iļjins in front of goal and slotted home his first-ever Virslīga goal to make it 2-2 and rescue a point for the hosts.
Tukums, still without a win this season, recorded their fourth draw of the campaign, while Liepāja’s struggles continue under Andreas Alm, with the team now winless in four matches.
Liepāja will look to return to winning ways next Thursday away against SK Super Nova, while Tukums will aim for their first victory of the season two days earlier when they host in-form BFC Daugavpils.
