RFS extends Viktors Morozs contract until 2027

Latvian champions FC RFS have solidified their future by extending head coach Viktors Morozs’ contract until the end of 2027. FC RFS President Artjoms Milovs shared the news in an interview with Edmunds Novickis, emphasizing how important this decision is for the club’s stability and long-term vision.

“This new deal wasn’t just about me and Viktors – it’s about the club as a whole,” Milovs explained. “We want the players to feel secure and know that the club is committed to a clear direction. Being able to tell them that Viktors will be here for at least three more years is crucial. Of course, anything can happen in that time, but we’ve made it official that we see Viktors leading this team for the foreseeable future.”

Morozs’ rising reputation hasn’t gone unnoticed, with foreign clubs occasionally expressing interest in the coach. Milovs acknowledged these offers but noted that moving on would depend on the situation. “We’ve talked about what kind of offer it would take for Viktors to consider leaving, but there’s no concrete answer,” he admitted. “A club from one of Europe’s top five leagues would obviously be compelling, but in other cases, it would come down to the details – what’s the environment like, who’s the sporting director, what are their goals, and how often do they change coaches?”

Morozs became RFS’ head coach in 2020 after the sudden departure of Valdas Dambrauskas. The Lithuanian coach had signed a new deal with RFS but left when an opportunity arose in Croatia’s top league. Morozs has since turned that challenging situation into a remarkable success story, leading RFS to three Latvian league titles, two Latvian Cups, and an impressive run of four consecutive Cup finals.

On the European stage, his achievements have been equally notable. RFS reached the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage in 2022 and followed that up this year by qualifying for the UEFA Europa League. Under Morozs, the team has earned points against big names like Galatasaray and Anderlecht, showcasing their growth on the international stage.

The next test for RFS comes on November 28, when they face PAOK in the UEFA Europa League.
