Renārs Rode appointed head coach of Bulgarian side Fratria

Latvian coach Renārs Rode has been appointed head coach of Bulgarian second-tier club Fratria.

The 36-year-old previously worked as assistant to Jurģis Kalns at Valmiera and later followed him to Cambodian club Visakha and then to Auda. Fratria are currently second in Bulgaria’s second division with 47 points from 23 matches, having won 14 times. They are 10 points behind the leaders after finishing 14th last season.

Rode also had a lengthy playing career, representing several clubs in Latvia, including Skonto, Ventspils and RFS. He also played in the Czech Republic, South Africa, Malaysia and Ireland.

At international level, Rode won four caps for Latvia and scored in a 2-2 draw against Slovakia in a 2013 World Cup qualifier.
