Latest round of the 2026 Baltic Women’s Football League (BWFL) saw Lithuanian MFA Žalgiris beat Estonian Saku Sporting as regional giants Gintra were bested by Latvian RFS Women on 15th February.
At the Žirmūnai indoor arena in Vilnius, MFA Žalgiris swept past Estonian runners-up Saku Sporting 5-0 in a game that was far tighter than the scoreline might suggest. With head coach Vadim Carabetchi rotating his squad after a match on the same pitch the day before, Sporting started on the front foot and created the clearer chances, only to come away empty-handed.
Instead it was MFA who struck first, when Austėja Petkevičiūtė curled a corner kick straight into the net in the 34th minute. The home side then took control after half-time: Ugnė Lazdauskaitė scored twice in five minutes (58th and 63rd), Petkevičiūtė added her second on 85th minute, and Erika Šupelytė completed the rout deep into stoppage time (90+5).
In Panevėžys, Gintra’s strong start against RFS Women did not translate into points as the Latvian side turned the match around to win 4-2. Khrystyna Pereviznyk fired Gintra in front after just two minutes, and Meida Proscevičiūtė doubled the lead on the 14th minute.
RFS Women pulled one back through Viktorija Lavreniuk on 32nd minute, and, after the break, the Latvian side took full advantage of Gintra’s lax defending with Lavreniuk completing her hat-trick in the space of two minutes, with second goal coming in the 50th and third on the 52nd minute. Gintra pushed numbers forward in search of an equaliser, but Katrīna Pētersone sealed the result in added time (90+5).
Last season, RFS Women did not manage a single win against Gintra, losing once and drawing once.
